MICHAEL Skuse is prepared to lose the jacket and tie if it helps him fit in at Weipa this week as he prepares to put two properties under the hammer.

The Cairns-based real estate agent will fly into Cape York to run two auctions back-to-back.

Rio Tinto is selling plots of land in Nanum and Golf Links and Mr Skuse said he believed locals could snap up a good deal on Thursday afternoon.

“What I have been told is that the vendor is looking to sell and that the reserve isn’t huge,” he said.

“That should make the auctions lively and entertaining.”

Usually, only interested bidders would have to register at an auction, but due to COVID-19, every resident who shows up for a look will have to register.

“I think there will be a lot of interest on the day,” Mr Skuse said.

“Having an auction is a bit of a novelty for Weipa and people will want to see what goes on and who turns up to bid.”

The LJ Hooker agent has been to Weipa before and said he might have to dress down slightly for the auctions.

“I might lose the tie and the jacket, but we’ll see,” he said with a smile.

Weipa Real Estate’s Deb Duffy said there had been plenty of interest in the auctions and encouraged bidders to make sure they had their finance lined up prior to the day.

“If you are genuinely interested, give us a call first and we can help answer any questions.”

THURSDAY’S AUCTION TIMES
5pm – 27 Fairway Avenue, Golf Links Estate.
5.30pm – Lot 364 Pandanus Parade, Nanum.
