So what did he do?

Chartered a helicopter to bring her flowers and chocolate at the Bramwell Roadhouse.

Brooke Quartermaine, who took the booking, raced over to Woolies to make sure they had flowers first.

“She didn’t even charge me for the flowers or the chocolate, just the helicopter charter,” said Les, who was pretty happy he was able to give his wife a big smile.

On Sunday, 24 hours after the big delivery, Wendy, known by everyone in the Cape as Dot, was still grinning from ear to ear.

“Someone rang me to say there were parts being delivered here for someone and not long after a chopper showed up,” she said.

“There was no one else here so I went out to see what was going on and the pilot handed me the flowers and chocolate.”

The pilot was Bevan Duke, the owner/operator of new Weipa business Heartland Helicopters.

He was more than happy to make the special delivery, just a short flight as the crow flies from Weipa Camping Ground to the Bramwell Roadhouse.

Les, who is in Brisbane, said his wife thought that he was a bit of a “fuddy duddy” and that he wanted to do something special for her.

“When she rang me on the phone to say thank you, her voice changed and I knew that she was a happy girl,” he said.

Brooke said she had been blown away by the support of Heartland Helicopters since the business launched.

“We had a Mother’s Day special for locals and we had half a dozen people book flights,” she said.

“This town is amazing.”
